About the role
We are a friendly department and would welcome any interested candidates to visit the Trust or to get in touch to ask any questions that you might have. The team is also open to discussing other sub-specialty interests you might like to explore in a potential job plan. Shortlisted candidates are encouraged to visit the Trust and meet senior members of staff and management teams. Details will be shared following shortlisting.
The department has UKAS accreditation to ISO151589:2022. It processes and reports, per year, approximately 23,000 surgical specimens (approximately 18,000 for the NHS with 16% from general practitioners), 1200 diagnostic cytopathology specimens and 1000 semenology samples.
The laboratory was designed in collaboration with the staff and has modern equipment including height adjustable dissection benches and a recently introduced Sakura Tissue-Tek Prisma Plus automated slide stainer and coverslipper, and a Dako Omnis immunohistochemistry immunostainer. Another similar immunostainer is being brought in to meet the increasing demands of immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology. The laboratory currently operates with two digital scanners which are used on a daily basis.
