About the role
We welcome applications from registrars from a range of backgrounds with a range of experience and can discuss individual training needs, for potential start dates in September 2026 and February/March 2027. Applicants should have completed a minimum of two years of training at the equivalent of specialist registrar level in a parent speciality and have experience in a critical carELCH PICU is the lead centre PICU for South Thames and home base for the integrated paediatric emergency transport service-South Thames Retrieval Service (STRS). PICU is a mixed intake unit, admitting cardiac and general intensive care. Over 1200 children are admitted per annum through 30 physical beds. 10 beds are predominantly for level 2 care. Approximately 35% of admissions are cardiac or cardiac surgical admissions. 50% admissions are as emergencies through STRS. STRS takes over 1750 calls per annum and transfers about 950 children. The paediatric critical care airway service and Evelina ECMO service (respiratory and cardiac) are also based within the PICU. The unit is accredited to undertake both Year 1 and Year 2 PICM training. The post will be based at the Evelina Children's Hospital. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.
