About the role

The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical care for the patients in community for the West Cluster in Salford Older Adult service. Additionally, the post-holder will be responsible for supporting and contributing to the development of the broader Older Adult team. The post holder will work with the Home-Based Treatment Team and Care Coordinators from the three Community Mental Health Teams in Salford, to facilitate discharge, and provide an alternative to inpatient admission

The post holder will have a middle grade who is Section 12 approved and two days of a CT that is shared with the Norst cluster. The post holder will provide clinical supervision for the West patients and the North Consultant will continue in their role of clinical supervisor. The post holder will be encouraged to be a clinical supervisor with a view to being support to get a resident doctor. A dedicated admin support is provided

• Undertake assessments of referrals/ admissions to the service • Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex presentations. • Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations • Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others. • Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers’ Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings. • Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners. • Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.

• Lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality care • Develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards • Engage with service transformation programmes including attendance at Consultant meetings for their service and directorate.

Person specification

Essential

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
