About the role
We are seeking to appoint a Consultant to support and further develop our expanding Gastroenterology service. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive gastroenterology service, including elective and emergency endoscopy, gastroenterology outpatient services, and inpatient gastroenterology care. Inpatient responsibilities include the management of patients across the two gastroenterology wards and associated outlier wards, responding to gastroenterology referrals from other specialties, and providing an in-reach service to the Acute Medical Unit. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a sub-specialty interest that aligns with the current and future needs of the department and to contribute to the ongoing development and management of this service. The post holder will take responsibility for leading the gastroenterology ward on a 1-in-7 rota, delivering daily consultant-led ward rounds over a seven-day period. During the remaining six weeks of the ten-week cycle, the post holder will deliver five direct clinical, face-to-face sessions per week (for example, three outpatient clinics and two endoscopy sessions), alongside attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and the provision of inpatient and ward referral support. Throughout the ten-week cycle, the post holder will also participate in a 1:15 on-call rota for out-of-hours emergency endoscopy.
