Whilst providing excellent neurological care, the service works in collaboration with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHSFT and University Hospital of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, contributing to a multi-disciplinary team that provides vital care for a wide range of neurological conditions. The successful applicant/s will provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The role includes leading multidisciplinary team working, offering specialist advice to colleagues, and contributing to high-quality, safe, and compassionate care. You will participate in service development and quality improvement, support teaching and supervision of junior medical, nursing and allied health professionals, and will engage in audit, research, and continuing professional development. You will work in partnership with with social care services, local support groups and 3rd sector providers as well as palliative care teams to ensure holistic care for patients with long-term neurological conditions. Shared responsibility for clinical governance and contributing to an effective, responsive neurology service across South Cumbria is integral to the role. This post is a maximum of 10 PA's per week. Full-time, part-time and job share considered. It is a Monday to Friday post with no on-call commitments.

Person specification

Essential

Proven experience in managing neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and dementia.
Experience in a consultant role, ideally in a community-based or outreach neurology service preferred but not essential.
Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with primary, secondary, and tertiary care providers.
Excellent clinical skills with a strong focus on patient-centred care.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and teaching abilities.
Ability to manage complex cases and navigate care transitions within the healthcare system.
High-level communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
A commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care in a community setting.
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, rural healthcare environment.
Full GMC Registration with Specialist Registration in Neurology or equivalent.

Desirable

An understanding of the unique challenges faced by patients in rural and isolated communities.
