Consultant Histopathologist (Gastrointestinal)

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was formed in 2017 following the merger of Central Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. With the inclusion of North Manchester General Hospital from 1st April 2021, our organisation provides a single hospital service across the City of Manchester.THE POSTWe are seeking to appoint a committed Consultant Histopathologist to join our experienced and highly motivated team based at the Wythenshawe Hospital site although there may be a requirement to work across our other sites. There may be future relocation of the base hospital if services relocate. It is intended that this post will join the Gastrointestinal (main component), Urology and Gynaecological (minor components) Histopathology reporting teams (although the minor components may be other subjects depending on the candidate's specialty profile) 5 Consultants currently contribute to the GI service with reporting and complex specimen dissection (basic dissection covered by biomedical scientists). Reporting includes lower GI resections, upper and lower GI endoscopic biopsies, appendices, gallbladders, anal biopsies. No cytology component. Weekly Upper and Lower GI MDT attendance (Friday) is shared.

The appointee is expected to report 1. Biopsies in their specialty areas 2. Resections in their specialty areas 3. Offer a specialist review service of external cases for patients referred to the service for treatment and/or MDT discussion 4. Attend, review and present cases at the MDTs 5. Contribute to the cut up rota (including dissection of complex cancer resections) 7. Work collaboratively as part of a subspecialist team, with a focus on high quality, peer review and patient safety, including being available to double report cancer cases at the time of reporting 8. Be engaged in audit and service improvement projects, and participate in the corresponding Pathology EQA 9. Take an active role in teaching and training of resident doctors
