About the role

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. This post provides an unparalleled opportunity for senior trainees in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine to further their training in all aspects of Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care with an emphasis on heart failure, mechanical support and transplantation. There are research opportunities in the fields of heart failure and mechanical support. The post would be most suitable for trainees who are close to completion of training in PICM or indeed post CCT; in particular those would like to pursue a career in Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care. This post is to commence as soon as possible for 12 months. As well as the rapidly developing fields of cardiac transplantation, ECMO and mechanical support in this supra-regional centre; the Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit cares for the full range of congenital cardiac operations for our regional population. Essential

Primary Medical Qualification
MRCPCH / FRCA or equivalent. Satisfactory completion of training to minimum of ST6 level or equivalent
Evidence of self-reflective practice
Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this
12- 18 months training in general paediatric intensive care, including 6 months of paediatric cardiac intensive care
Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
Able to prioritise clinical need
Able to work independently on PICU with consultant supervision
Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures.
Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work -based assessments.
Good History and examination skills
Ability to formulate a working diagnosis.
Able to order appropriate investigations
Able to manage common medical emergencies
Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
Written evidence of satisfactory training to date e.g. workplace assessments
Able to contribute to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting
Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit and research
Experience of active participation in audit projects
Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and other people within a team, build rapport, listen, persuade and negotiate
Able to work in multi-professional teams and supervise junior medical staff
Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues in all disciplines.

Desirable

Intercalated BSc or equivalent. Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD (where research thesis not part of full medical degree).
Experience of paediatric cardiology.
APLS provider or equivalent.
Wide paediatric / anaesthetic experience and neonatal intensive care training
Within 12 months of completion of training in paediatric intensive care medicine
Experience in teaching undergraduate medical students & junior doctors/nurses
Contribution to Departmental training sessions.
Organised or contributed to an audit project that has resulted in change
