About the role
Perinatal mental health services have undergone significant national expansion. Locally, this led to the development of a comprehensive perinatal mental health service for South Birmingham during Wave 1 of national funding. Wave 2 funding supported the creation of comprehensive services across the Black Country and West Birmingham, and North & East Birmingham and Solihull. All teams are multidisciplinary, comprising specialist practitioners from psychology, nursing, occupational therapy and nursery nursing. These teams work alongside the established 10-bedded inpatient Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) and its inreach/outreach service, which accepts referrals nationally. The MBU is now commissioned by the West Midlands Perinatal Provider Collaborative. This post provides consultant cover for the Solihull perinatal team. The postholder will also work collaboratively with other perinatal and MBU consultants to provide reciprocal cover for community teams and the inpatient MBU during periods of absence. The role involves extensive multi-agency working with key partners including child protection services, health visiting services, public health teams, maternity services, primary care, children's centres and the voluntary sector. Providing training, consultation and advice to partner agencies is an important aspect of the role, alongside effective information sharing to ensure safe and coordinated care throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.
