About the role

Consultant in Cardiologist ( Adult Congenital Heart Disease) 10PAs The post will be appointed to the Barts Heart Centre, based at St Bartholomew's Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. The merger of three cardiac services into the new cardiovascular centre creates a new world-class institution that will provide state of the art cardiovascular care to a population of six million people. Under the leadership of the local academic health science network, UCL Partners, we are striving for excellence in academic and clinical domains, including the appointment of new clinical academics to ensure future excellence. The adult CHD service provides all aspects of care to around 12000 patients. There is a busy surgical and congenital interventional programme and sub-speciality services including pregnancy, PHT, Aortopathy and Transition (based at GOSH). This is envisaged as a general congenital post but suitable subspecialties are encouraged if appropriate to service requirements.

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care. Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts' business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director for ACHD, General Manager and Director for the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group. With the agreement of the Clinical Director and Clinical Academic Group Director, development of his/her own interests and sub-specialities within the specialty, in line with business planning principles and commissioners' approval, including active participation in research programmes. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training. To participate fully in the management of the department and to liaise closely with the Clinical Director, Service Manager, General Manager and Clinical Academic Group Director. The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The duties outlined are not definite and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be cooperative and flexible

Person specification

Essential

MB BS, or equivalent
MRCP or equivalent
CCT (or within 6 months of date of interview)
A broad experience of tertiary level OP and IP care of people with CHD
Widespread broad-based knowledge of all aspects of CHD
Competency in Congenital echo
Clinical experience of managing patients with CHD
Higher Specialist Training in adult congenital heart disease
Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates
Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion
Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post
Excellent presentational and verbal skills.
Ability to motivate and develop medical trainees.
Ability to manage time well to deliver objectives of the CAG
Awareness of best practice through evidence based medicine, and personal drive to enact the change with the team
Self motivated with an enquiring, critical approach to work
Ability to work under pressure Caring attitude to patients.
Commitment to continuing medical education.
