About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiasticCommunity Consultant Paediatrician to join our friendly and well established Community Paediatrics Team in Brent, North West London.

Based at Chalk Hill Primary Care Centre, the successful candidate will provide specialist community paediatric services to children and young people across Brent. Clinical sessions are delivered from Wembley Centre for Health, Willesden Centre for Health, and Village Special School, offering a varied and rewarding caseload within a multidisciplinary setting.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics with CCT/CCST in Community Paediatrics, or be within six months of obtaining CCT/CCST/CESR at the time of interview.

- The Brent Community Paediatric Team forms part of Brent Children's Clinical Services Unit (CSU), working alongside a range of specialist and universal children's services including Community Children's Nursing, Special School Nursing, Looked After Children Services, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, School Nursing, and Health Visiting. - The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing specialist community paediatric care for children and young people across Brent. Responsibilities will include delivering general and specialist Community Development Team (CDT) clinics, triaging referrals, participating in multidisciplinary discussions, undertaking Child Protection and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) medical assessments, and contributing to clinical decision making and service delivery. - The post holder will also play an active role in teaching, training, and supervision of resident doctors, students, and multidisciplinary colleagues, whilst contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, service development, and leadership initiatives across the service. - There will be opportunities to develop specialist interests and undertake Lead Consultant responsibilities in line with service needs and individual expertise.

Person specification

Essential

MBBS, MRCPCH, Completed Postgraduate Medical Training (CCT in the relevant specialty)
Full GMC registration with a license to practice
On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview
Capable to work at Consultant level in Community Child Health
Current and full registration with the appropriate professional body
Satisfactory Appraisal within the last 12 months (or within the most recent 12 months of work, if currently on a career break)
A positive recommendation for revalidation where appropriate Evidence of continuing professional development
Is able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to
Higher Specialist Paediatric Training including usually 3 years in Community Child Health (usually after 5 years of Higher Specialist Training in total).
Extensive experience in a Community Paediatrics clinical setting including safeguarding
Experience of driving improvement and ensuring patient safety through clinical governance systems
Experience of managing underperformance and the ability to foster effective performance within clinical practice
Demonstrate an ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams
Ability to anticipate and plan for change
Good working knowledge of professional requirements and standards for healthcare professionals including appraisals
Evidence and experience of networking with a wide range of stakeholders including the public, external commercial organisations and national strategic bodies
Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
Valid BLS Training
Willing to work unsupervised and make decisions
Good written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively
Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
Evidence of achievement of level 3 competencies in Community Child Health
Proven ability to set clear direction and articulate a compelling vision

Experience in other areas relevant to Community Child Health e.g. General Practice, Child Mental Health, Public Health, Paediatric Neurology, Paediatric Neurodisability
Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of Community Child Health practice to take a lead role in that area
Experience of job planning, medical appraisals and revalidation for medical workforce
Experience in case management and or case investigation
Experience and evidence of effective chairing skills, facilitation and conflict resolution ability
Experience in the assessment, development and delivery of clinical education
