About the role
The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Stroke Physician and Geriatrician. The trust has worked with the Imperial College Hospital NHS trust to create a joint post between the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) at West Middlesex Hospital and the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at Charing Cross Hospital. The appointment will be of 10PAs and will include 2 PAs at Charing Cross Hospital HASU with participation in the HASU on call rota. This post will be based at the West Middlesex University Hospital site in Redlees ward and will be responsible consultant for Acute Stroke Unit patients and non- stroke patients on the ward. The appointee will provide inpatient stroke advice and outpatient services in 5 days a week TIA clinics and stroke follow up clinic, which are well supported by radiology and cardiac investigation departments in the hospital. The appointee will participate in the Regional HASU stroke rota that is 1:16 being resident on call 0900-2000 (Monday - Sunday) with on call from home for nights on call with the expectation to come in for thrombectomy patients.
This is a joint Consultant Stroke and Care of the Elderly Medicine post between the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) at West Middlesex University Hospital and the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The appointment will be 10PAs and includes 2 PAs at HASU with participation in the 1:16 HASU on call rota. Along with 2 other consultants, the applicant will over the 5 day TIA service at West Middlesex, which is well supported by administration team and the radiology department. The ward base would be on the Redlees ward, which has 22 ASU beds and 2 non stroke beds and the consultants have responsibility to cover all the patients on the ward. The Applicants are invited to join a dynamic and forward-looking department of the Stroke and Care of the Elderly medicine. The successful candidate will join a team of eight existing consultants in the Care of the Elderly department at West Middlesex site, and will provide inpatient and outpatient services in Stroke, Care of the Elderly and General Internal Medicine in a busy, but well supported general hospital. The new consultant will work closely with Dr Ravneeta Singh and Dr Crina Diaconu, to ensure that there is a Stroke Physician presence on the West Middlesex site at all times.
