About the role

The Richmond and Wandsworth Community Drug and Alcohol Service has been run by SLaM, as lead provider in partnership with non-statutory organisations: We Are With You, St Mungo's and Community Drug & Alcohol Recovery Services (CDARS) since April 2020 as part of the Richmond & Wandsworth Consortium. The current Consultant Psychologist is going on maternity leave in mid-July and this post is for a full time maternity cover for 12 months fixed term. Fundamental to the Consortium's ethos is therapeutic optimism about what can be achieved in recovery, combined with expertise regarding best-evidenced approaches, innovation and quality improvement, piloting new developments in the field (e.g. Buvidal), motivated and cohesive multi-disciplinary working and training, and co-production with SU peer networks and partner agencies. We build on our ability to positively transform wider social, medical and mental health systems, aiming for integrated clinical-recovery excellence, and the highest standards of innovative care for people that struggle with the full spectrum of substance use disorders (SUDs) - licit and illicit, prescribed, over-the-counter and the range of associated mental, physical and social conditions related to problematic use. Person specification

Essential

Entry-level qualification in applied psychological therapies in mental health and addiction and demonstrable practice in this field (Professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level with post-qualification supervised practice and additional training) that has been accepted for the purposes of professional registration.
Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice relevant to addictions through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in the specialist area of addictions, assessed by a registered body and/or an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher.
Completed training course in clinical supervision and/or accredited to supervise qualified psychological practitioners in relevant discipline.
Registered with professional body as appropriate to discipline HCPC.
oEvidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
Evidence of having worked under supervision as a clinical specialist (senior psychologist) in Addictions and / or Complex Care.
Experience of undertaking leadership roles
Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature associated with mental health and co-occurring substance misuse.
Experience of supervising assistants, trainees and qualified psychologists having completed the relevant training.
Experience of carrying out post-qualification research, audit or service evaluation projects and fulfilling the needs of service commissioners.
Knowledge of theory and practice of management and leadership.
Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatments for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use problems.
Advanced knowledge of the theory of psychological practice/processes in addictions and their therapeutic application in the psychiatric patient population.
Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities.
Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care including addictions.
To deliver specialist therapies across cultural and other diversities.
To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
Consultation skills to work with the multi-professional team or other professional groups and sensitively managing, a number of people's needs simultaneously within the context of therapeutic work/consultation.
Advanced skills in working with a number of clients and systems together, managing the highly complex emotional relationships within and between the component parts of the systems in ways, which maximise the potential for therapeutic outcomes.

Desirable

Training in Motivational Interviewing and CBT for Addictions.
Specialist trainings in other relevant psychotherapies e.g. psychodynamic, systems, cognitive analytic, dialectical-behavioural therapies, trauma-informed, schema therapies.
Experience of working in a specialist addictions service or in a senior role with a specific focus on working with clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues.
Knowledge of commissioning systems in addictions services and the different performance and clinical demands upon these services.
Knowledge of commissioning systems across mental health services and the different performance and clinical demands upon these services.
Skills in setting up programmes and training staff in substance use specific interventions including Contingency Management programmes and use of node-link mapping tools.
