About the role

We are looking for aGynaecology Consultant with an interest in endometriosis care to joinour team of Consultants in Women's Health at Southmead Hospital, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team when we are developing and expanding services offering high quality care to our women in all parts of our service. As a hub for regional endometriosis care, experience in this field is mandatory. This includes outpatient clinics, laparoscopic and robotic operating, post operative care and emergency care.

The post holder will hold CCT inGynaecologyor be within 6 months of this. They may haveadditionalexperience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview. The postholder willbe responsible forthe clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absent.The postholder willbe responsible forthe professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.The postholder will berequiredto take part in a Clinical Audit Programme.

Person specification

Essential

MRCOG or equivalent
Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post.
Experience in Endometriosis care
Specialist trainees that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview.
Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology equivalent to that required for UK CCT
ATSM in advanced laparoscopic surgery
Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career
Experience in audit project and written up
Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
Knowledge of political context within which we operate
Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
Positive approach to evidence based practice
Evidence of recent and regular engagement with icontinuing professional development (CPD) scheme
Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it
Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service
Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant
Ability to practice independently as a consultant
Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership
Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues
Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English

Desirable

Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD or MS).
Evidence of a special interest and expertise in endometriosis
Broad range of IT skills
Evidence of management/leadership experience and/or qualifications and courses
Additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
Trained as a Consultant Appraiser
