GP Training Programme Director

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the West Midlands GP School for established Training Programme Directors (TPDs) or other educators previously involved in iTAP to contribute to the support of GP registrars in the West Midlands. The positions would be most suited to established TPDs, however in exceptional circumstances, applications from suitably experienced candidates will also be considered but the applicants would need to demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to consultation skills and supporting GPs who may have challenges with effective communication. This will need to be evidenced in the application in order to be shortlisted. The role involves attending the iTAP sessions organised primarily for ST1, watching GP registrars consult with role-players as patients, and then facilitating appropriate feedback from colleagues, the role player and from themselves. The feedback will be supportive and formative for the doctor in training. Part of that experience should also be giving and receiving feedback well. There may be specific doctors where a more detailed written assessment and feedback is required using the iTAP consultations as control cases where there have been concerns about the standard of consultation skills.

Supporting educational development across the GP School, particularly through the Structured Learning Programme, and where appropriate, health inequalities training, neurodiversity initiatives, iTAP, and Trainers' Courses Facilitating induction for GP Registrars, including enhanced support for international medical graduates and those new to the NHS Working closely with GP practices and education providers to ensure high-quality, balanced training placements Organising and delivering face-to-face and virtual educational programmes Providing timely educational and pastoral support to learners and educators Ensuring appropriate assessment processes are in place, including effective ARCP delivery Collaborating with senior educators, Training Hubs, Trusts, and partner organisations across the region The iTAP sessions can be on different days of the week not always Thursday. There are usually 3 cohorts per year each cohort is run over 2 mornings. Hopefully there is an improvement between each session. These sessions were previously paid on an sessional over-time basis but will now be paid at 0.25 ie 1 session every 4 weeks which will cover any iTAP sessions plus any additional consultation support. There are 12 places available.
