Want to work in a progressive and dynamic Emergency Department?We are seeking energetic, effective and enthusiastic consultants with the passion to develop and deliver high quality emergency care at Bristol Royal Infirmary.We pride ourselves on our excellent patient care; our strong relationships between our clinical, nursing and management teams; our standing as a Cardiac Arrest Centre; and our commitment to constant improvement, from our research and teaching, to our innovative Global Health Partnership and links with Bristol Community Emergency Medicine Service (CEMS). We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and clinically focussed individuals as Consultants in Adult Emergency Medicine. The successful candidates will join our existing team of 21 consultants. The team are committed to improving and advancing the quality of Emergency Care and deliver excellent training available locally and nationally. The successful candidate will work within a well-established and supportive multidisciplinary team. You will be based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary Adult ED, part of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).

UHBW is one of the busiest EDs in the South West, seeing 80,000 adults per year. The ED attendances at the BRI are of high acuity and reflect the broad spectrum attending an inner-city ED, with an average of 220 attendances per day. UHBW also serves as a large tertiary referral centre for many specialities such as cardiology and cardiac surgery with 24-hour Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)available and operating as a Cardiac Arrest Centre. BRI ED is a Trauma Unit part of the Severn Major Trauma Network (SMTN), which coordinates Major Trauma services across the former Avon area as well as parts of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. We have fantastic working relationships across our Urgent Care teams, working dynamically across all the assessment units (Acute Medical Unit, Older Persons Assessment Unit and Surgical Trauma Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care Units to deliver excellent care at the front door.Our ED is an academic department teaching medical students, and all members of the MDT including HSTs, ACPs, EPs, CESR, ACCS, GPSTs and Clinical Fellows. The Emergency Department has recently scored consistently 'Good/Excellent' for Higher Specialist Training and 'Excellent' for GP Training. We have also come a respectable 9th across the country for patient experience (GMC).

Essential

Knowledge of the principles involved in research
Evidence of involvement in research
Fully registered with GMC.
Certification of completion of specialist training (CCT) (or equivalent, OR Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at the point of interview
Candidates can be within 6 months of gaining CCT at the date of interview. Please note this does not apply to CESR applications
Must be on the GMC's Specialist Register to start Consultant appointment
Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Emergency Medicine
Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
Positive approach to evidence based practice
Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
Experience of teaching medical students.
Experience of supervising trainees.
Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team
Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it
Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service
Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant
Ability to practice independently as a consultant
Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership
Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues.
