About the role

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is seeking to appoint a Consultant Medical Oncologist in Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers to join our internationally recognised GI Oncology Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a world-leading multidisciplinary team providing specialist care for patients with oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, colorectal and carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) cancers.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team of medical and clinical oncologists, surgeons, specialist nurses, researchers and allied health professionals, delivering high-quality systemic anti-cancer therapy and contributing to specialist MDTs across a large regional referral network. UCLH hosts specialist OG and CUP services for London Cancer and is a major centre for colorectal and hepatobiliary oncology.

The post offers exceptional opportunities for clinical leadership, service development, teaching and research, with access to a wide portfolio of national and international clinical trials and strong academic links with UCL, the UCL Cancer Institute, the Francis Crick Institute and the Proton Beam Therapy Centre. Person specification

Essential

Medical degree and completed General Professional Training, or equivalent
Higher academic degree e.g. MD or PhD (or in final stages of preparation), or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications
Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent)
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 12 months of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or equivalent, in an appropriate specialty at time of interview - exact start date will be discussed with the candidate at interview
Non-UK trained doctors must provide evidence at interview that they are eligible for full GMC registration and entry on the Specialist Register in Medical Oncology
Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters
Experience of and commitment to multidisciplinary working
Wide experience in managing treatment and follow-up of patients with cancer
Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Proven ability and commitment to carry out original research, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals
Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical setting
Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise staff
Ability to work effectively within a team environment & on own initiative
The ability to promote teamwork and motivate colleagues
Leadership skills and the ability to take forward service developments
Excellent communication skills/verbal and written. Good command of written and spoken English
GCP certification for clinical trial work
Good communication skills with various staff groups and patients both verbal and written
Commitment to teaching and education
