About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic dynamic individual to join our team of thirteen consultants as our second Functional Consultant. The successful applicant will help to support and expand the current comprehensive services provided. You will be expected to help deliver high quality Urological care to the people of Plymouth and surrounding areas from our tertiary referral centre of excellence, and to help maintain our ability to achieve national targets in this large University teaching hospital in the Southwest of England. The Urology and paediatric Urology service is managed within the Surgical Care group. The Service Line Directors (Mr Jonny Manley and Mr Richard Pearcy) represent the Service Line at senior management level. There is a full-time Service Line Cluster Manager and a Support Manager. All consultants meet monthly for a Business Meeting to which all members are invited.

The post holder will interact with members of the medical teams and nursing staff, and also with all other hospital staff associated with the care of patients. He / she will also be a member of the directorate interacting with colleagues and trainees. The post holder will be managerially responsible to the Clinical Director, and professionally responsible to the Medical Director. The employer is Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. Person specification

Essential

Successfully completed an ATLS and APLS provider course. Level 3 child protection training. Completed FRCS Urol To be on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register or eligible for admission within six months of interview.
Demonstrate evidence of good general training. Demonstrate evidence of having had a good sub- specialty training. Evidence of ability to perform advanced procedures. Ability to lead a team. Desirable criteria Maximum score 7
Presentations or publications in peer reviewed journals. Able to conduct clinical audit.
Ability to teach clinical and practical skills.
Well-presented CV. Ability to work in a team. Ability to delegate appropriately.
Willingness to participate in management process.

Desirable

Higher degree. Current ATLS provider status. Postgraduate prizes and awards. Other medical qualifications. Experience outside specialty.
Understanding of NHS. Good time management. Demonstrate evidence of wide based knowledge. Attended appropriate courses/meetings in the last 6 years covering the spectrum of the entire specialty. Post CCT fellowship or equivalent. Attended advanced surgical / Medical courses. Comprehensive knowledge of specialty.
Current research. Research in a specialty interest or trauma. Extensively published. Presentations at local/ regional/national/ international meetings. Demonstrate an enthusiasm to continue with research and clinical audit. Relevant audit projects. Statistical knowledge.
Evidence of experience and ability in teaching. Supervision of projects. ATLS instructor.
Evidence of good communication skills. Information technology skills. Leadership skills.
Evidence of interest and ability in management.
