About the role

Our Medicine Division at North West Anglia Foundation Trust is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our friendly and supportive team. You will be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team of Stroke Consultants delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient stroke services across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. We are a leading hub of innovations in precision stroke medicine implementing new technologies such as Clopidogrel resistance testing, multimodule point-of-care ultrasound in neurology, neurointensive care and stroke medicine, pre-hospital stroke video triage, mobile stroke unit. We also run highly specialised services including young stroke and spasticity services and much more. At both NWAFT and CUH, we place a strong emphasis on innovation and research. Through this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in research initiatives and service improvement projects aligned with national priorities and local commissioning needs. You will also contribute to the training and development of your colleagues doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team. Person specification

Essential

MBBS or equivalent
MRCP or equivalent
Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
Experience of conducting clinical audit
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Good inter-personal skills
Enquiring, critical approach to work
Caring attitude to patients
Energy and enthusiasm and an ability to work under pressure
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, other staff and agencies
Commitment to Continuing Medical education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit.
Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Good IT skills
Full GMC Registration
Satisfactory completion of the Trust's Occupational Health assessment
CCT in General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine or Neurology as well as CCT in Stroke Medicine (or within 6 months of the CCTs at the time of interview) or on the Specialist Register in an equivalent specialty
Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a wide range of problems in adult medicine including stroke (acute and rehab)
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Stoke subspecialty training certificate or experience in delivering comprehensive stroke care including stroke thrombolysis
Ability to participate in the smooth running of stroke medicine services.
Ability to participate in and lead a multidisciplinary ream balancing specialty and generalist objectives.
Ability to contribute to development and implementation of services
Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively
Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
Experience in supervising trainees
Ability to teach clinical skills to students and trainees

Desirable

MD/PHD
Experience of conducting research projects
Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Have access to car/current UK driving licence
Experience in project management
Management skills including training in teaching skills
Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
Experience of teaching other professional groups
