About the role
This role is located in a British Overseas Territory, therefore UK legislation such as the Data Protection Act (2018) and the Equality Act (2010), or similar, may not apply. The successful applicant is expected to use initiative, mature judgement and take responsibility for patients under their care. The post provides invaluable experience with broad exposure to the whole gamut of General Medical presentations. Medical inpatients are primarily cared for in the acute medical ward (Captain Murchison Ward) and the combined Critical Care Unit (CCU) which serves as an ITU, HDU and coronary care unit also staffed by a consultant and middle grade Intensivist. We also have a rehabilitation ward, a long stay ward and an infections/isolation ward. Surgical patients are primarily located on the surgical ward (Dudley Toomey Ward) which also cares for outlying Medical patients as dictated by the bed state. The Medical Department comprises of 10 consultant specialists (the majority single handed), 6 of whom currently contribute to a 1 in 6 General Internal Medicine (GIM) Consultant on call rota.These specialties comprises of the following fields: Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Nephrology, Neurology and Rehabilitation Services, Older Peoples Medicine, Respiratory and Rheumatology. There is also a consultant-led oncology service comprising a Chemotherapy Day Unit and is led by 2 in-house GHA consultants.
