About the role
The post holder will work under the clinical direction of the consultants in the Haematology Department. The post would be ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in Haematology and to apply for a National Training Number. As such the post is suitable for any level of seniority from SHO equivalents to Clinical Fellows or Registrars and upwards who wish to pursue a career in Haematology and who would like to consolidate their experience. Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of non-malignant and some malignant haematology services consistent with a busy district general hospital including a large population of patients with inherited haemoglobinopathies who require ambulatory and inpatient care. Clinical duties within the Department will cover the whole range of haematological problems, with the post-holder providing consultative support to other inpatient services/GPs as well as diagnostic and laboratory support. Support to become proficient in bone marrow biopsy procedures will be provided. The post holder will be expected to prioritise and time-manage effectively according to the activity of the department and to utilise appropriately the available senior staff for advice. The Department has a key awareness of the importance of clinical audit, and all specialist trainees are encouraged to complete audit projects whilst here. Participation in undergraduate and CMT teaching is also encouraged.
