We are seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in glaucoma to join our friendly, supportive and forward thinking Eye Unit, with an anticipated start date of Oct 2026. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient care by delivering high-quality, specialist glaucoma services within a collaborative multidisciplinary team known for its innovation and commitment to continuous improvement. We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with expertise or a strong interest in glaucoma, excellent teamwork skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding patient-centred care. You will:- Deliver expert care in the management of complex glaucoma cases- Undertake glaucoma clinics and surgical activity, including conventional surgery and MIGS- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the glaucoma service- Participate in the teaching and training of resident doctors, nurses, optometrist and wider staff- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in glaucoma care and surgical practice Please see the Consultant Brochure which provides further information.

Person specification

Essential

FRCOphth or equivalent
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Fellowship in glaucoma
Experience of teaching and audit
Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
Experience in glaucoma clinics
Experience in performing glaucoma surgery
Publications in ophthalmology
Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Ability to complete Audit
Ability to be flexible
Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly

Clinical trials experience
