About the role

This post is intended to support both the PICU at Staffordshire Children's hospital at Royal Stoke (SCH@RS) in Stoke on Trent, and KIDSNTS Retrieval Service based at Birmingham. It is a fixed-term, one year post. The post holder will divide his/her time equally between the two units.

The appointee will join the dedicated PICU (UHNM) and KIDS (BWC) teams to provide high quality service delivery, maintain standards and protocols, to provide teaching and perform audit.

Essential

FRCA/MRCP/MRCPCH/Equivalent
On GMC Specialist Register for base specialty on commencement of post OR within six months of obtaining CCT for UK trainees on the date of interview, OR equivalent for overseas trainees
APLS/PALS/equivalent certification
Candidates are required to be on, or eligible to be on, the Specialist Register and: o Have a minimum of two years training in an approved Paediatric intensive care medicine training unit plus six months (minimum) of anaesthetics (stand-alone) o OR completed PICM GRID training (UK) o OR on specialist register for PICM via the CESR route o OR existing Substantive consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine including transport o OR Equivalent with evidence that this training has been completed.
Experience in management of cardiac patients
Level 3 Safeguarding training
Experience of clinical audit and the maintenance of high quality of care
Experience of quality and safety reviews eg: mortality reviews, review of critical incidents
Knowledge and experience of clinical and other research related to intensive care and intensive care transport
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Flexible/Adaptable/Supportive
Able to work effectively under pressure
Teaching skills
Commitment to continuing professional development
Abide by the principles of equality, fairness and respect for others.

Desirable

European Trauma Course (ETC) certification
Experience in transfer of patients being considered for ECLS
Experience in neonatal transport
Experience in caring for children on ECLS
Experience in Neurosurgical intensive care and Trauma management
Experience in caring for patients with Liver disease including post -transplantation care.
Publication in peer-reviewed journals
Experience and training in medical management and/or clinical leadership

Experience and training in human factors/CRM

Training the trainers course

Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities at local/regional and national level.
