Consultant Community Paediatrician

Pending Royal College Approval Consultant Community Paediatrician with the roles of Named Doctor for Children Looked After (CLA) and Medical Adviser (MA) for Adoption and Fostering (A&F) Applications are invited for a 10 PA Community Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Children looked after (CLA). This post is a replacement post and will be mainly based at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children which is on the St. Helier site, however in keeping with Trust principles cross site working is encouraged and may be required. The post holder will help deliver Community Paediatric services for the London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton. We are keen to support a suitable candidate to develop an area of interest which supplements the work of the department. While this post does require the candidate to provide a named role, we would support colleagues who may wish to develop into these roles in the future. There are no on-call commitments unless desired. We currently offer our patients a wide range of services including diagnosis and management of all types of Developmental Problems e.g. Global Developmental Delay and Autism assessment in the under 5s, Motor Coordination Disorder, Neurodevelopmental disorders and Neuro-disability, Down syndrome and CLA clinics.

The post includes: Named Doctor role for Children Looked After. Medical Adviser role for Adoption and Fostering. Neurodevelopmental clinics, including assessment of social communication difficulties and autism spectrum disorder in children under five years. Management of children with complex neurodevelopmental and neurodisability needs affecting education and daily living. Participation in the EHCP process in accordance with departmental guidance. Health assessments for Children Looked After. Triage of referrals as required. Contribution to the safeguarding consultant rota. Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme. There will be opportunities to build and further teaching and training ambitions, as we have middle grade trainees within the department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape this development. Innovative ideas will be welcome to support the integration of services for children in the community and in the acute services where they have overlapping needs.
