About the role

Barts Health NHS Trust Surgery and Cancer Trust Doctor (eqv to ST3+)in Critical Care Whipps Cross University Hospital A Critical Care Fellow post has come available within the department of Perioperative medicine, with a start date of Aug 5th 2026 Applicants can be from any anaesthetic, emergency/acute medical/PICU or surgical background. Training and experience consistent with a FY2 or greater is a minimum requirement.

The hospital has fifteen operating theatres, including two laminar flow orthopaedic theatres, specialist Ophthalmic and ENT theatres, and two theatres in the maternity unit.

Critical Care provision is delivered across two critical care units - ICU 1, a 9 bedded unit which was completely refurbished in December 2022; and ICU 2, an 8 bedded unit that was opened in January 2017 following a £2.3 million refurbishment. There are around 800-900 critical care admissions across the two units per year.

Person specification

Essential

MB BS or equivalent
Current GMC registration
Eligible to work in the UK
Completed foundation programme
Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
Ability to work in a team Good interpersonal skills Capacity to work under pressure

Desirable

FRCA, MRCP, FFICM
Or first part of any of the postgraduate qualifications above.
APLS, ATLS
Training beyond foundation programme with previous ICM experience
Evidence of formal training in teaching methods
Previous Critical care experience
Evidence of leadership skills
