About the role
This is a full-time post for a Specialty Doctor with significant experience in General and Upper GI Surgery. An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to join and support the surgical team. The successful applicant will be expected to work within the Upper GI subspecialty team. The Surgical Department maintains a busy full shift emergency and general surgical commitment. It is expected that this post will provide you with good experience in looking after acute and elective general surgical adult patients. During the Consultants' on-call week, there will be daily Post-Take Ward Rounds and no routine clinical activities. Almost half of the surgical admissions to the hospital are emergencies. This will provide the post holder with ample experience in the management of the acute abdomen, head injury, and common general surgical emergencies. There is excellent back up for managing critically ill patients from consultant anaesthetists and intensivists. They provide help with resuscitation and transfer of patients with major head injuries to neurosurgical units. It is expected that you will become familiar with the pre/peri- and post-operative management of patients in the general surgical specialties and will acquire the practical skills appropriate to your level of training to support the general surgery department.
