About the role

Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist to join a friendly and cohesive team of radiologists with diverse expertise in a busy department and a strong record in teaching and training. The applicant would be expected to join the existing radiologists in providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service and providing support for multidisciplinary meetings. The post-holder will also support the running of service in our main department at St George's Hospital.

The successful applicant will be expected, in collaboration with the other radiologists in the department, to oversee and ensure the provision of high-quality clinical services within the Radiology Department. This would consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service which includes general plain radiography,, CT, ultrasound, and MRI.

In addition the post will contain general diagnostic adult sessions in CT and plain film reporting. The successful applicant would take part in general oncall and have participation in training and quality improvement activity would also be expected.

The post-holder will also participate in a full-time diagnostic on-call rota (approximately 1:15), alongside regular weekend working (with time off in-lieu).

It is expected that applicants will have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience.

The Trust is a designated level 1 Major Trauma Centre and has been granted Foundation Trust status.

Person specification

Essential

Medical Degree
Full registration with GMC
CCT in radiology (or within 6 months at time of interview)
Reporting A&E, GP, inpatient and out- patient plain radiograph examinations
Ability to take full and independent clinical responsibility
Experience in trauma imaging and reporting.
Trauma MDT experience
Able to evaluate own radiological practice
Independent in general and MSK ultrasound including chest wall.
Knowledge of legislation relating to radiology e.g. IR(ME)R 2000
Understand the principles of Clinical Governance
Ability to work with colleagues as part of a team
Effective communication skills
Commitment to CPD and teaching
Enthusiasm
An awareness of own strengths and weaknesses

Desirable

Experience of teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and trainee specialists
Reporting of speciality MSK CT and MR.
Experience of MSK pathology including chest wall and whole body MRI.
Independent in speciality MSK US, PRP injections, chest wall experience.
Computer, PACS and VR software literate
Experience of paediatric MSK speciality investigation and reporting.
Experience of rheumatological MSK speciality investigation and reporting. Including MDT experience.
Able to contribute to a lymphoma/myeloma MDT.

Active interest in research, audit, clinical governance and teaching

Interest to support the research group as a research officer role.
