About the role
Senior Clinical Fellow in the Department of Geriatric Medicine This post gives the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to experience Geriatric Medicine in a busy hospital setting with daily Consultant supervision. You will be expected to take an active role in the department, participating in daily ward and board rounds, implementation of early assessment, diagnostics and clinical management of patients in all our areas. There are opportunities for study leave, audit and training. These posts are not recognised training posts however there are excellent teaching and postgraduate facilities. The post holders will be encouraged to attend a wide range of education meetings at lunchtimes throughout the week, and clinical experience will be gained from the Department's own educational programme. Educational and clinical supervisors will be provided along with access to study leave and funding.
The Senior Clinical Fellows principal clinical responsibility is to assist in the investigation and treatment of in-patients admitted to the service. They will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds with the consultant of the day. These are structured formal ward rounds where the clinical fellow will be expected to present cases, and discuss the differential diagnosis and management. They will have access to the in house teaching programme, and will be taught how to carry out appropriate practical skills, and may be expected to perform these with supervision on patients admitted to the ward. The post holder is responsible for maintaining a full clinical record of patients admitted to the ward. They will be required to produce a written summary of the admission at the time of discharge; They will participate in audit data collection, and attend clinical governance / audit meetings. The appointee will be expected to dictate out-patient letters from patients or patients seen in clinic. Jointly manage with the other Senior clinical fellows and trainees in the department of patients admitted to the allocated wards and clinical areas of responsibility.
