About the role

Applications are invited for a hybrid Consultant post with a 60:40 split between Acute and Community Paediatrics. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of Acute Consultant Paediatricians and Community Paediatricians across North West Wales.

This new post has been created as part of a service restructure following a colleague's move to flexible working arrangements and another colleague's retirement. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our supportive team. The successful candidate will bring a specialist interest in allergy, along with a willingness to take on a lead role in palliative care within acute children's services.

As part of the recruitment process, applicants who are successful at shortlisting will be invited to attend a Stakeholder Interview on 24th September 2026 and an Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC) Interview on 25th September 2026.

Management and Clinical GovernanceThe successful applicant will:o Be responsible for the management, appraisal, and supervision of Doctors under their supervision.o Maintain personal and professional development. The post holder will register with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health for the purpose of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and to fulfil the requirements of that registration.o Provide expert advice, when required, to the Executive Team, Board, General Practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders on the planning and delivery of clinical services at local, regional, and national levels. This will be carried out in accordance with confidentiality agreements related to Health Board business.o Co-operate in the present agreed framework of management arrangements in the Health Board.o Actively engage in the Health Board's clinical governance processes, including participation in clinical audits and research where appropriate.o Collaborate with colleagues and the Health Board to pursue agreed objectives, and fully support the implementation of outcomes to promote best practice.o Participate in consultant appraisal and job planning reviews.o Ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Health Board are observed

Person specification

Essential

Full GMC Specialist Registration in Paediatrics or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
MRCPCH or equivalent
Newborn Life Support provider course
Advanced/European Paediatric Life Support provider course
Valid Level 3 Safeguarding training
Valid BLS Training
Ability to undertake the role of Palliative Care Lead within Acute Children's Services
Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience of leading clinical governance activities, including audit, quality improvement, and management of clinical risk
Proven leadership skills, with the ability to guide, support, and develop teams
Experience of working as part of a management team
Ability to complete child protection medical assessments independently
Can demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to Higher to Higher specialist Training
Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience of liaising with other agencies e.g., Child Protection agencies
Evidence of initiating, progressing, and completing audits
Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching
Ability to work as part of a team
Leadership Skills

Desirable

MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent higher degree
Evidence of Management Training
Valid APLS and NLS
Evidence of formal leadership or management training

Experience in community child health or equivalent knowledge and experience gained in related posts
