About the role
This post would suit candidates (including Out Of Programme Trainees) wishing to pursue a career in renal transplant surgery or someone weighing up career options in general / vascular / transplantation surgery, or urology. This post will provide an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in pre/post-operative management of renal transplant patients & to develop basic general surgical/vascular/urological/multi-organ retrieval operative skills. There is provision to improve academic portfolios & support those wishing to obtain CESR applications. There will be an opportunity to have allocated time for clinical research and quality improvement projects, that will lead to abstracts and publications. The postholder will be supervised by a consultant transplant surgeon and work in a multidisciplinary team. There is an excellent working relationship between surgeons & physicians and care is shared between the teams. The surgical team provides renal transplantation, dialysis access, urological & general surgery for patients with renal failure, as well as delivering National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS). The post also includes responsibility for the supervision and training of the junior staff and teaching medical students at UCL. Terms and conditions of service are as for ST3+ / Clinical Fellows. The average hours of duty are 48 hours per week. The post holder willparticipate in out-of-hours cover for renal transplant surgery and multiorgan retrieval & will be paid accordingly.
