About the role
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join its established consultant team. The post will be based at West Middlesex University Hospital and will contribute to the delivery of high‑quality general and specialist obstetrics and gynaecology services across both sites to the population of West London and surrounding areas.
The successful post holder will work closely with consultant colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team to support the provision of safe, effective, and patient‑centred care. Core clinical responsibilities include supporting the on call rota, lead and support the Bereavement service and Perinatal Mental Health service, support the Obstetric Endocrine service and provide leadership and clinical support for the postnatal service.

The appointment is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) and includes a non-resident on‑call commitment for Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The appointee will provide a high quality Obstetrics and Gynaecology service, in conjunction with consultant colleagues already in post. It would be expected that the consultant offers continuous responsibility for the care of patients named under their team.
Whilst this post is initially and primarily based at the West Middlesex site, all appointments may require cross-site working to varying degrees.
In particular we are looking for a colleague to support Obstetric services and on call commitments. These services are already established and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop these specialist services further.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active interest in the management of high risk women obstetric problems. It is expected that the successful individual will provide a unified multidisciplinary approach to the care of women with problems as well as being able to support and develop the services within our unit.
There will be dedicated time for teaching medical students (tutorials, ward, clinic and theatre based learning) and for post graduate teaching and departmental meetings (Friday post graduate afternoons are statutory sessions for all staff). Regular audits will be required and supervision for Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) undertaken by the trainees. Involvement in general management and committee work for the hospital will also be encouraged.

Roles of the post
1.0 Provide a high quality consultant led service in Bereavement and PMRT, Perinatal Mental Health, as well as on labour ward and on call. Participate in the multi-disciplinary meetings
1.1 Evolve and write, in line with Trust governance policies, pathways for patients seen within the various Obstetric services.
1.2 Work with the multidisciplinary team to undertake a senior role in the general provision of Obstetric and Gynaecological Services at West Middlesex Hospital
1.3 Contribute to the on-call rota
1.4 Provide senior leadership in the management of high risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties.
1.5 Attend all theatre cases to perform surgery, unless satisfied a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision
1.6 Assessment and delivery of immediate medical attention of deteriorating elective post-op patients
1.7 on call commitments as part of the departmental on call rota
1.8 Support obstetric colleagues with advice/ surgical assistance, e.g. major obstetric haemorrhage.
1.9 Support the Emergency Surgical Consultant with a consultant gynaecological opinion/ ultrasound if feasible.

2.2 Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
