About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking consultants to join our Paediatric Anaesthesia team. This appointment offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a well-established department while further enhancing the range of skills and specialist interests within the consultant body. The successful candidate will provide anaesthetic care across paediatric and general theatre lists, with additional involvement in burns theatre work. They will also participate in the Paediatric Anaesthetic on-call rota, which is currently 1:12 and band A. The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, support service development, and contribute to high-quality patient care, teaching, and departmental governance. Post may include Saturday activity within the job plan.

Provide High Quality Care to Patients The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration. Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post. Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities. Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views. Adhere to the Trust Customer Service Commitment and adopt a professional approach to customer care at all times. Develop clinical practice through self-reflection and learning from experience, application of research into practice and active contribution within the multi-disciplinary team. Research, Teaching and Training Provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Service Director. To contribute to training and teaching of medical trainees, medical students, other doctors in training and other staff groups. Responsible for teaching and training non-Consultant postgraduate colleagues. Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research/audit portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.

Essential

FRCA or equivalent
CCT in Anaesthesia or equivalent (on, or within 6 months of inclusion on, Specialist Register at time of interview)
Advanced Training in Paediatric Anaesthesia
Experience with neonatal anaesthesia
Experience in Burns anaesthesia
Experience in high-risk surgery for emergencies and ortho-trauma
Highly organised, self-motivated and committed to personal development
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work with colleagues in a team and delegate appropriately
Involvement in Governance and patient safety
Understanding of and involvement in service development
