About the role
The Acute Consultants contribute to the care of patients within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Emergency Department (ED) footprint e.g. AEC, Trolley Bay, AMU Assessment, AMU Short Stay, post-take, day-take and reviewing patients in ED awaiting medical beds. Each individual Consultant's timetable will vary weekly to ensure all clinical areas within the Acute Medicine footprint have senior cover. This approach ensures continuity of patient care in the week, continuity of consultants for our resident doctors and ward nursing teams as well as provides variety and flexibility of weekly working for the consultants.
We currently have six substantive Acute Physicians and two long term Locums, with subspecialty interests in Respiratory Medicine, Nephrology, General Practice and Clinical Pharmacology. There is an accredited FAMUS trainer within the consultant cohort. The Acute Consultants work closely with a specialist frailty team and the ED department.
Provide an Acute Consultant service for patients at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Support the development of ambulatory care pathways, specialty in-reach and other service improvements.
Contribute to the General Medicine (GIM) out of hours rota.
