About the role
Perinatal mental health services have undergone a time of huge expansion nationally. Locally this has led to the development of a comprehensive perinatal mental health service for South Birmingham during Wave 1 of national funding. Wave 2 of this national funding has led to the creation of comprehensive services covering the Black Country and West Birmingham and the North & East Birmingham and Solihull. All teams are multi-disciplinary and comprise of specialist practitioners from relevant disciplines - psychology, nursing, OT, nursery nurses. These teams work alongside the well-established existing 10 bedded inpatient Mother and Baby Unit and its inreach/outreach team, which accepts referrals from across the country. The Mother and Baby Unit is now commissioned by the West Midlands Perinatal Provider Collaborative. This post provides consultant cover for the West perinatal community team working alongside another Consultant. An important aspect of this post will be supporting the continued development of perinatal mental health community teams.
