About the role
This is an opportunity to join the dynamic and enthusiastic team of reconstructive surgeons to gain experience in a skin and breast oncology. In addition to activity in Oxford, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide plastic surgery support within our spoke service based at the Great Western Hospital. There is excellent collaborative working relationships with our Dermatology and Breast teams in Oxford and Swindon and there will be support and mentoring for new consultants when they join the department.
The post-holders' duties will be primarily at The John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals in Oxford, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post-holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations and its partner hospitals. Flexible working is essential, and the job plans are annualised to reflect this. Clinical Duties The post-holder will have responsibility for general plastic surgery services at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. There will be an on-call commitment (presently 1 in 14). The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery provides a comprehensive reconstructive surgery service to Oxford and its surrounding areas. We have a consultant-based service. Services provided by existing consultants in the department include plastics trauma surgery, craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate, upper limb, bone infection, sarcoma, breast reconstruction, skin cancer, autologous transplantation, head and neck cancer in addition to hypospadias. We have Burn Facility status as part of the London and South East Burn Network. We are fortunate to have our offices, outpatient clinics, theatres, adult and children's wards and day case units co-located in a new block on the John Radcliffe site. The Head & Neck Unit is in the Cancer Centre at the nearby Churchill Hospital.
