About the role
East Cheshire NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgery (Benign Conditions) to join the General Surgery team at Macclesfield District General Hospital. This permanent opportunity offers the chance to contribute to the ongoing development of Upper GI and General Surgery services within a supportive and progressive department.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Upper GI Surgeon with an interest in benign upper GI and hiatal surgery, strong laparoscopic general surgery skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Enthusiasm for teaching, training, and service development is essential.
The General Surgery department provides comprehensive elective and emergency care, supported by a 1 in 6 emergency general surgery on-call rota and a 24/7 middle-grade tier. The multidisciplinary team includes Surgical Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Colorectal Nurse Specialists, and robust nursing and administrative support.
The hospital offers excellent facilities, including endoscopy, CT, MRI, and interventional radiology, and has a strong education and training ethos. This role offers the opportunity to join a Trust committed to clinical leadership, innovation, and continuous improvement, with access to shared office accommodation and dedicated secretarial support.
