Essential

Full registration with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practise at time of starting the post.
Minimum of 5 years postgraduate medical experience, of which at least 2 years should be in Emergency Medicine, including at least 6 months working in UK Emergency Medicine at a level equivalent to ST4 or above.
Evidence of achievement of foundation competencies and of clinical competence at ST3 / core-training level or above.
Level 3 safeguarding children training.
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
MRCEM Primary and MRCEM SBA passed, or equivalent / legacy qualification (e.g. FRCEM Primary and Intermediate). Candidates working towards, or who already hold, full MRCEM are encouraged to apply.
Competent in the core Emergency Medicine procedural skills expected at ST3+ level.
Able to independently assess and manage undifferentiated patients across all areas of the ED, and to make safe shop-floor decisions with consultant support available.
Aware of own limitations and knows when to consult senior colleagues.
Understands the importance of working effectively in teams.
Able to help manage the clinical floor, prioritise the activities of the team, and supervise and support junior clinical staff.
Ability to assess, recognise and initiate management of the acutely ill patient.
Able to lead a resuscitation and contribute effectively to the trauma team.
Current ALS provider certificate. ATLS/ETC and APLS/EPLS in date, or willingness to obtain within an agreed time frame.
Able to communicate effectively in written English.
Able to communicate effectively in spoken English to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues.
All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following:- - PLAB 1 & 2 - For those doctors who do not write the PLAB, IELTS or OET If applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills, but do not fit into one of the examples they need to provide evidence.

Desirable

Experience of working at registrar (ST3+) level in a UK major trauma centre or paediatric major trauma centre.
Six months dedicated experience in paediatric emergency medicine
Full MRCEM
Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. PGCert Medical Education, MSc, RCEM-accredited ultrasound).
Knowledge and understanding of UK health systems.
Awareness of current issues in the NHS
All three life support courses (ALS, ATLS and APLS/EPLS) in date; instructor status in any of these.
