About the role
Applications are invited to apply for an exciting opportunity for a 6 session 12-month fixed term locum Consultant post in Palliative Medicine. The post is based at Meadow House Hospice (MHH). The hospice is situated in the grounds of Ealing Hospital (EHT) and is part of London Northwest University Healthcare Trust (LNWUHT). Meadow House Hospice is the base for Ealing and Hounslow Specialist Palliative Care Service which supports patients with complex needs in the context of dying throughout the London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow (LBE and LBH). The clinical service at Meadow House Hospice consists of the following: An in-patient hospice ward at MHH with 15 individual rooms Two community teams - one covering LBH and one covering LBE (approximately 400 patients). Consultant support to the Specialist Palliative Care Team operating in Ealing Hospital Day Services (recently reopened) A 24/7 on-call consultant giving advice to healthcare professionals and patients across the London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow managing telephone advice to professional colleagues in local acute hospital settings. We host the regional lymphoedema service which treats patients with primary and secondary lymphoedema. We are increasingly working collaboratively with the Specialist Palliative Care Service based at Northwick Park Hospital.
Aims of the post To provide consultant level specialist palliative medicine expertise to patients, palliative care teams and other colleagues across the Northwest London Health Sector To play a role in improving the palliative care for patients in Meadow House Inpatient Unit, community and other care environments. To work alongside other specialist palliative care personnel to continuously improve the skills of Trust staff of all disciplines and experience in care of the dying. To contribute to the palliative care team's education and training programme for healthcare professionals on palliative care topics to develop palliative medicine and palliative care as part of the multidisciplinary palliative care team in LNWUHT. To participate in the managerial and strategic work of the service, contributing to the constant modernisation and quality improvement of the service
