About the role
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust currently has an opening for a Substantive consultant Plastic surgeon role with a sub specialist interest in Breast Reconstruction. We are particularly looking for individuals with experience in breast reconstruction surgery, in particular DIEP surgery. The candidate will be expected to perform DIEP flap surgery independently as this is a high-volume service for DIEP reconstruction. The post holder will work as a member of a team of Consultant Plastic Surgeons, based at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust.
This is a full time (10 PA) post. The post holder will work as a member of a team of Consultant Plastic Surgeons, based at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust with opportunities to have commitments in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Solihull Hospital. University Hospital Birmingham is the Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre for the West Midlands providing adult services in Burns, Hand Surgery, Breast Reconstruction, Skin Oncology, Lower Limb Trauma, Sarcoma and Head and Neck surgery. The post holder will be a part of the Breast Reconstruction team and will work closely with the Breast Surgery team. The unit provides a high-volume DIEP flap service and has a long waiting list. The successful applicant will be on the Plastic Surgery on-call rota at University Hospital Birmingham, the major trauma centre in the West Midlands. The on-call commitments are one in eleven weeks, where the postholder will be managing Plastic Surgery emergencies including microsurgical lower limb reconstruction and work closely with Orthopaedic colleagues. Job Plan will Include: *Outpatient clinic sessions *OncoPlastic Breast MDT meeting *Theatre sessions to independently perform DIEP flap breast reconstruction and adjunctive breast reconstruction procedures *Support with bilateral DIEP flap breast reconstructions All applicants must declare the number of procedures completed independently: -DIEP flaps -LD flaps
