This job attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 in addition to £8000 relocation allowance. The RRP is pro rata for part time employees. This Post is for a Consultant responsible for providing clinical input & leadership to Liaison Psychiatry for Working Age Adult (WAA) based at Royal Surrey County Hospital & working alongside a multidisciplinary team in line with New Ways of Working. The liaison service has been a well-established service providing liaison inputs for many years. In addition, the directorate offers Liaison Psychiatry services within Surrey's five major District General Hospitals. There has been considerable focus & interest in Liaison services by commissioners, and the post holder will work alongside the managers on directly influencing the delivery of services to the Acute Hospital to suit local needs in East Surrey, Epsom General, Frimley Park, Royal Surrey County & St. Peter's Hospitals. The Consultant will support the existing staff in assessing, diagnosing & managing referrals for WAA presenting with mental health problems & to provide medical expertise & support to Royal Surrey County Hospital staff involved in looking after patients with adult mental health presentations. In addition, the Consultant will supervise the clinical caseload of the team members & the work of any trainee doctors who may be attached to the service. The role will also support the existing liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service. This will include facilitating discharge planning & timely communication with Primary Care, Neighbourhood Teams or Inpatient Services. The clinical work will involve the assessment & psychiatric treatment of patients directly or through the supervision of other team members. Person specification

Essential

MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
Full medical registration with a license to practice
Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act(or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams
Knowledge of psychiatric provision
Ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care.
Skills in providing consultation to other professional groups under New Ways of Working
A high-level ability to effectively communicate complex and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers, and a wide range of lay and professional people within and outside the NHS at both written and oral levels.

Desirable

Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
MRCPsych or equivalent
Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
Experience in management
Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course.
Ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
