About the role

Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and highly motivated non medical consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity for an advanced practitioner to take on a consultant level role leading on clinical assessment, care planning and service development within a supportive forward thinking environment.

The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership in stroke medicine, undertaking assessments, leading daily ward rounds and guiding MDT team. You will play a key role in research, education, and contribute to improvement of stroke services across the trust.

The post holder will act as a clinical expert, advisor and a resource for nurses, doctors and other health professionals within the MDT to improve patient care in Stroke.

The role will support the expertise offered by current Stroke Specialist Nurse and Clinical Stroke Co-ordinator colleagues, including supporting and training current and future members of the Stroke nursing team.

As an autonomous practitioner the Nurse Consultant will utilise advanced clinical skills and expertise, to develop and deliver a range of Stroke services and to deliver clinical interventions.

Person specification

Essential

Change management Skills
Motivated, reliable and committed to clinical and nursing development
Experience in teaching/teaching qualification
Ability to participate in and present research
Facilitation and presentation skills
Evidence of an understanding of clinical governance, risk management and the need for audit.
Registered general nurse educated to degree level (or equivalent)
Evidence of academic education to MSc level
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in speciality
Substantial previous experience in a nurse clinician role within Stroke
Extensive knowledge and experience with services and treatments
Strategic Awareness

Desirable

Demonstrate teaching experience and diploma level and above
Facilitate a network of nurse specialists to support and advance nursing practice.
Qualification in teaching and assessing
Developing and leading research in clinical practice
Published Research
Excellent presentation skills and experience of presenting at local and national conferences
Previous 5 years’ experience as a stroke nurse demonstrating competencies in the range of skills necessary to meet the needs of the service
High level of communication skills for networking, negotiating and problem solving
