About the role

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest, progressive radiology departments in the UK at Southmead Hospital Operating Unit (SHOU), a major teaching hospital, Level 1 Major Trauma Centre, and key tertiary referral centre serving the South West. This substantive Consultant Radiologist post offers a broad, high-volume and clinically diverse abdominopelvic imaging practice, supported by exceptionally close multidisciplinary working with gastroenterology, hepatology, colorectal surgery, upper GI surgery, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, urology, oncology and emergency care teams. The abdomino-pelvic radiology team works closely with nationally recognised endoscopic services, including advanced therapeutic endoscopy/ complex polypectomy/ capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy. Applicants should have a CCT or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC's specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview. The role provides exposure to a wide spectrum of complex pathology, including colorectal cancer, HPB, inflammatory bowel, complex pelvic including mesh and exenteration planning, as well as acute GI radiology. Radiologists at SHOU are integral members of a strong MDT culture and play a highly valued role in clinical decision-making. There are excellent opportunities to contribute to and shape patient pathways through close collaboration with a range of tertiary services, including support for image-guided intervention and specialist body ultrasound services. SHOU offers a stimulating academic and educational environment, with strong links to the University of Bristol and University of West of England, as well as hosting the largest cohort of radiology residents in the Severn Deanery, thereby providing excellent opportunities for teaching, supervision and educational leadership.

Person specification

Essential

?FRCR or equivalent
?Full registration with the GMC
?Previous experience working in the NHS, minimum 18 months as an independent reporting radiologist.
?Must have CCT in Clinical Radiology and on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of the appointment.
?Where applicable completed CESR
?Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.
NHS experience of acute and trauma cross-sectional imaging, including body and neuro radiology
Sub-speciality training in abdomino-pelvic imaging
Independent MDT provider
Independent ultrasound provision
Log-book evidence of independent reporting and procedures
Evidence of recent CME / training progression at this stage of career
Completed QI and Audit projects
Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
Knowledge of political context within which we operate
Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates and postgraduates
Proven teaching ability
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues
Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team
Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff
Ability to work independently as well as part of the Core Clinical Services Directorate
Good written communication skills; evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels

Desirable

Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).
Competence in reporting abdominal and pelvic MRI including MRCP, small bowel, Liver, rectal, gyane and, prostate
Independent image guided biopsy and drainage
Wire guided localisation procedures
Specialist US skills - contrast enhanced liver and kidneys and small bowel US
Fluoroscopy
Completion of a general management course or programme
Formal educational qualification (Certificate, Diploma, Masters)

Proven record in research

Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management
