About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated senior clinical fellow to join our dynamic and supportive Paediatric Emergency Department at St Georges’ Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for doctors with previous experience in paediatrics or emergency medicine who wish to further develop their clinical, leadership, and teaching skills in a busy tertiary hospital and Major Trauma Centre.

Successful candidates will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality emergency care to infants, children and young people with a broad range of acute illnesses and injuries. The role offers excellent opportunities for supervised clinical practice, service development, quality improvement, simulation training and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching.

This post is particularly suited to candidates considering a future in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and may provide valuable experience towards specialist training applications.

The post is only suitable for clinicians with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience post graduation. This must include previous experience in paediatrics, or at least 3 years’ experience in emergency medicine including some experience in paediatric emergency care. Experience of working in the NHS or an equivalent healthcare system is essential.

Clinical Fellows are required:

- To perform clinical work in the Paediatric Emergency Department and support ED resident doctors on the shop floor.

- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including paediatricians, emergency medicine clinicians, advanced clinical practitioners, nursing staff and allied health professionals.

- Contribute to clinical governance activities, including audit, quality improvement projects, incident reporting and guideline development.

- Participate in teaching of resident doctors and other allied health professionals.

- Engage in departmental education, simulation, morbidity and mortality meetings and continued professional development.

1. The Clinical Fellows are required to perform clinical work in the ED as the first doctor to see patients with the range of problems that present to the department.

2. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the smooth running of the department, as required.

3. Clinical Fellows will be expected to participate in audit and encouraged to take on research or quality improvement projects depending on the interests of the successful applicant(s). There will be an opportunity to present the results and assistance is given with the preparation and submission of work for publication.

4. There are specific tasks for the non-clinical role. These will be discussed in more detail with successful candidates on uptake of the post.
