About the role

The Department of Dermatology is seeking 2 part-time (8 PA) substantive consultants. The post holder(s) will run a range of clinics based at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL). This post will include general adult, paediatrics dermatology clinics and skin cancer clinics. The post also includes inpatient review of acute dermatology referrals. The post may have a requirement for flexible working across other South East London dermatology sites depending on service demand. We are looking for a dynamic applicant(s) who is committed to excellence in patient care and who is forward-looking as we explore innovative ways of delivering our services.

Person specification

Essential

MBBS or equivalent
MRCP
GMC registration and hold a License to Practice
On the GMC specialist register for Dermatology or hold CCT in Dermatology or be within six months of obtaining CCT at date of interview or equivalent experience.
Comprehensive clinical experience in Dermatology
Significant expertise in the management of secondary dermatology, cancer, general adult and paediatric dermatology patients
Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
Communication; Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
Accountability; Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
Staff Management; Experience of performance management, developing and motivating staff.
Finance; Knowledge of finance and budgets.
Knowledge of research methodology and clinical trials
Ability to establish a good professional relationship with colleagues
Effective communicator and team player
Credibility, probity and integrity
Understanding of the principles of clinical governance and clinical risk
Understanding and experience of audit
Evidence of participation in clinical audit.

Desirable

Distinctions, scholarships, prizes Other higher degrees, e.g. BSc, PhD, MD.MSc, MD, PhD
Subspecialty training and interest to compliment service and development
Formal Teaching qualification.
Evidence of ability to lead and develop a teaching programme
Experience in service business case
An understanding of corpocracy in the NHS
Service development or improvement projects
Evidence of personal research projects and their presentation.
