About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Specialty doctor in Anaesthetist with a passion for Obstetrics to join our expert and energetic team. The successful applicant will be based at Princess Royal Hospital for theatre and obstetric sessions. The post holder will have the opportunity to be part of the improvements recommended by the Ockenden report for the maternity unit. Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.

Main Clinical duties include: Undertake elective and emergency maternity theatre sessions, labour analgesia, follow ups and high-risk obstetric clinics To participate in the multidisciplinary labour ward rounds To provide support to the novice trainees and medical students and actively contribute to training and continuity of service Undertake theatre sessions in other subspecialities, special interests can be accommodated To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team. The post holder will also contribute to service development. This may involve contributing to Ockenden recommendations, QIPs, audit projects, guideline updates or teaching and training. To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.

Person specification

Essential

MBBS, MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
Advanced Life Support (ALS) Certification
6 years of an aesthetic experience including obstetric Anesthesia
Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Shall have completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in Anaesthesia in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted. Completed initial competency in obstetric anaesthesia or equivalent.
