Consultant - Palliative Medicine

This is a new post as part of our service development to improve specialist palliative care in the emergency department and at the hospital 'front door'. The focus will be on acute palliative care and our aim is to optimise symptoms early on and avoid admission where appropriate. The post holder will work alongside the four current palliative medicine consultants in the well-established palliative care service. The post holder will be based at Florence Nightingale Hospice and is expected to work across BHT sites as per their job plan. Flexibility will be required depending on service development and demand. It is proposed that the 5 consultants will ultimately rotate through, and lead on, different service areas over fixed periods of time. However, the focus for this post will be on acute care at the frontdoor.

Terms and Conditions of Service The post is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the new Consultant Contract (England 2003). General Conditions of Appointment The Trust requires the successful candidate to have and maintain full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a doctor as set down by the GMC. The successful candidate will be required to live within 10 miles of 'principal place of work' at the Trust (Wycombe Hospital / Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Amersham Hospital), or 30 minutes travelling time when on call.
