About the role

• To contribute alongside the consultant body to an excellent standard of care covering the full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment and management of patients requiring anaesthetic services. • To contribute to safety and quality initiatives and improvement projects being undertaken in the trust. • To supervise and support resident doctors, clinical fellows and specialty doctors. • To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department. • To contribute and support departmental meetings. • To fully comply with requirements for annual appraisal and job planning and maintain an up -to-date mandatory training record.

Essential

Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
On GMC Specialist Register for anaesthesia or within 6 months of attainment of CCT in anaesthesia at date of interview
FRCA or equivalent anaesthetic experience
Completed a recognised period of training leading to a CCT in anaesthesia or has gained equivalent experience
Experience in anaesthesia for major surgical procedures including major laparoscopic surgery
6 months experience working in the NHS or equivalent
Experience of multidisciplinary pre-assessment and pre-operative preparation of complex patients
Evidence of commitment to service improvement / clinical excellence
Broad range of experience specifically in ‘outside areas’ including paediatric radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, CT, endoscopy
Demonstrate an ability to perform the specific clinical procedures relevant to the post
Demonstration of a subspecialty interest relevant to this trust in which significant clinical experience gained
Understanding of clinical risk management
Clear logical thinking showing an analytical / scientific approach
Appropriate level of clinical knowledge for the post
Shows knowledge of evidence-informed practice
Shows awareness of own limitations
Evidence of participation in clinical governance
Evidence of completion of audit cycle or quality improvement initiative
Ability to mentor both medical and nursing staff
Teaching on formal educational courses
Evidence of involvement in education of colleagues (trainees, AHP’s nurses)
Being familiar with, and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control.
Completing all required training and education (both via e-learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal
Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.
Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English

Higher degree
Advanced airway management skills and experience of managing difficult airway
A Fellowship or other significant specialist experience
Ability to cover both the general and obstetric on-call rotas as required
Demonstrates breath of awareness of issues relating to clinical anaesthesia
Management course completed or evidence of knowledge of management structures & processes
Knowledge or interest in data to improve patient care and utilisation of digitalised systems
Show a regular commitment to teaching
