About the role
The appointee will be responsible for providing neurodevelopmental clinics in Southampton City, health assessments for children Looked After or with a plan for adoption, and a lead role in the department for clinical governance. The post also involves a contribution to the teaching of undergraduate medical students; the supervision of trainees and specialty doctors; and a contribution to the acute child protection rota for physical and sexual abuse. Other duties may be negotiable depending on the skills and special interests of the successful applicant.
Coordinate the departmental provision for paediatric neurodevelopmental outpatient clinics in Southampton City, including the clinical supervision of trainees, specialty doctors and nurses providing these clinics. Teach undergraduate medical students from the University of Southampton Medical School. Provide educational supervision to core and grid paediatric trainees, Foundation doctors and GPVTS trainees as required (subject to training by Wessex Deanery and recognition by the GMC). Contribute to the child protection medical service for the assessment and management of children in whom abuse, or neglect are suspected. This includes on-duty cover for acute assessment of both physical and sexual abuse on weekdays approximately 30 days per year, and a contribution to the weekend and bank holiday rota for assessment of alleged sexual abuse in prepubertal children approximately 1 in 10 weekends. Depending on previous experience and special interests, there may be opportunities to deliver multidisciplinary feeding clinics, continence clinics, special school clinics, Looked After Childrens clinic or general paediatric outpatient clinics
