About the role

This is a replacement post for Senior Clinical Fellow in neonatology. The remit of the post holders will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients within the service. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. This post is particularly suited to experienced neonatal registrars with substantial exposure to tertiary-level neonatal intensive care. The appointee will contribute senior clinical decision-making, support supervision of junior trainees and participate in the care of extremely preterm infants and babies with complex medical and surgical conditions within a Level 3 NICU. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.

This post will be based at Denmark Hill Site and it is suitable for an experienced neonatal registrar (ST6-8 or equivalent) with MRCPCH or equivalent and substantial experience in a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit in the UK. The post holder should be confident managing critically unwell neonates, including extremely preterm infants and babies with complex respiratory, haemodynamic and surgical needs, and contributing to senior clinical decision-making within a multidisciplinary team. Opportunities to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Greenough and her team may also arise for interested candidates. The objectives of this post in neonatology include the development of: Understanding of the monitoring and management of respiratory support in neonates. Competence in the practical procedures required in critical ill neonates Competence in the management of fluid and nutritional support for critically ill neonates. Experience in dealing with the relatives of neonates with chronic illness. Competence in the resuscitation of term and preterm infants. Competence in the assessment of the normal newborn infant and of common minor problems. Provision of appropriate support for junior members of the medical team Leadership skills

Essential

Registrable medical qualification
Full registration with GMC/GDC with license to practice
Eligible to work in the UK
Minimum 36 months' experience in Paediatrics, including2, 4
At least 18-24 months working at registrar level in Neonatology
At least 12 months' experience working in a level 3 NICU the UK2, 4
Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.
Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
Must be able to demonstrate ability to lead change
Experience of conducting or supporting clinical research

Desirable

Other higher degree or diploma (e.g. MD)
CESR pathway experience
On UK Specialist register or close CCT
Successful completion of APLS, NLS or equivalent
Previous middle grade neonatal intensive care experience in a tertiary surgical or cardiac centre in the UK
Management course and / or qualification.
Understanding of NHS management and resources
Evidence of active participation in audit and Quality improvement projects

Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of Paediatrics and/or neonatology e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, presentations)

Publication of relevant review articles or case reports
