About the role

The postholder's duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's other sites.

A whole-time/part-time post as a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care is now available at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

This appointment is on a whole-time/part-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share. Applications from candidates who are qualified in Intensive Care Medicine with or without another specialty are welcomed, as well as applications from Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists with an interest in Intensive Care.

This consultant post will provide Intensive Care and Anaesthetic services to cardiothoracic patients as part of a team of consultants providing cardiac and thoracic surgery and cardiology procedures at the Trust. This post is in Cardiothoracic Intensive care with or without another specialty. You will provide care for adult cardiothoracic and cardiology patients on the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit the John Radcliffe. This care includes direct care of admissions, leading ward rounds, follow-up outpatient clinics and consultations on relevant critically ill inpatients.

Person specification

Essential

Full GMC Specialist Registration CCT or equivalence
Completed a recognised training programme in Intensive Care Medicine and/or Anaesthesia
GMC Registered with licence to practice.
Experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and transoesophageal echocardiography
Significant experience in the care of cardiothoracic and general intensive care patients
Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
Excellent leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital.
Sufficient organisational skills to function as a consultant. An understanding of management structure and function within the NHS.
Effective administrative and time management skills.
Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
Good spoken and written English. Communication skills should be highly developed.
Good personal and interpersonal skills.
Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.
Experience of routine clinical audit
Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities.

Desirable

MD, PhD
DICM, EDIC, FFICM or equivalent
Completion of fellowship in cardiothoracic anaesthesia
Echocardiography Accreditation
Clinical experience of advanced cardiac life support e.g. ECMO, VAD, Impella
