Essential

On GDC Specialist List in Oral Surgery or within six months of attaining CCST
Eligible for full UK GDC registration
Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Oral Surgery
Experience / training such that the applicant has reached a standard considered equivalent to that expected after 3 years of specialist training in Oral Surgery.
Ability to deliver medical / psychological management of temporomandibular conditions
Extensive experience in treating temporomandibular joint problems
Experience of contributing to a multidisciplinary team
Extensive experience of oral surgical treatment under local anaesthetic, sedation and general anaesthesia
Ability to independently perform dentoalveolar surgery Under LA/IV/GA
Understanding of clinical governance and risk management in the secondary care setting
Management skills and effective leadership for the NHS environment and specifically clinical service delivery
Understanding of principles of clinical audit
Effective participation in audit including implementation of outcomes
Good IT skills
Experience in training undergraduate and postgraduate students and StRs in Oral Surgery
Experience of undertaking and organising clinical research and ability to appraise the scientific literature critically
Knowledge of research ethics
Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience and ability to work co-operatively with others.
Able to change and adapt, respond to changing circumstances and to cope with setbacks or pressure.
Ability to work as part of a team
Experience of performance management, developing and motivating staff.

Desirable

One, or more of the following or equivalent qualifications: FDS RCS, MFDS RCS MJDF RCS Diploma, MSurg (RCS Ed ) in
Higher academic degree relevant to Oral Surgery MSc, PhD etc
Experience of leading guideline and protocol development for oral surgery patients
Knowledge and experience of setting up a service
Participation in multidisciplinary audit
Experience in leading UG or PG courses in oral surgery
Evidence of teaching courses and / or teaching qualifications
Experience in UG and PG examining relevant to Oral Surgery
